How to Fix Android Wi-Fi Connection Problems

Android showing connected but no internet, or refusing to join a network? These fixes cover the most common causes in order from simplest to most involved.
1. Toggle Wi-Fi off and on
Pull down the notification shade and turn Wi-Fi off, wait five seconds, then turn it back on. If the problem continues, turn on Airplane mode for 10 seconds and then turn it off — this resets all radio connections at once.
2. Forget and rejoin the network
Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → long-press your network name → Forget. Then reconnect and re-enter the password. This clears a saved network profile that may have become corrupted.
3. Restart the router
Unplug the router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. If another device on the same network also has no internet, the problem is with the router or ISP rather than your phone.
4. Reset network settings
Settings → General management → Reset → Reset network settings. This clears all saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings and mobile data settings, so you will need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and re-pair Bluetooth devices. It is effective for stubborn connection problems caused by a corrupted network configuration.
5. Check for IP address conflicts
Tap and hold your connected Wi-Fi network → Modify network → expand Advanced options → change IP settings from DHCP to Static. Assign an IP address in the 192.168.1.100–200 range that is unlikely to conflict with other devices, keep the Gateway as 192.168.1.1, and set DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Android say "Connected, no internet"?
Android detected the Wi-Fi connection but could not reach Google to confirm internet access. Restart the router first. If the problem is only on your phone, try forgetting and rejoining the network.
Why does my Android keep disconnecting from Wi-Fi?
Common causes are Wi-Fi power saving (Settings → Battery → restrict Wi-Fi during sleep), a weak signal, or a router setting that drops idle clients. Try disabling Wi-Fi power saving first.
Should I use 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz on my Android phone?
Use 5 GHz when you are within 5–10 metres of the router for faster speeds. Switch to 2.4 GHz when further away or when walls reduce the 5 GHz signal strength.
